  1. Way to go Dr. McClary! I’m so thrilled that you were able to get this up and going! This will be a great communication tool for all of the mentors to use when we have a tricky problem and we needs lots of brain power. See you Thursday afternoon at the mentor meeting!

  2. I think this will be a great tool for mentoring!

  3. A special thanks to the mentors who were able to attend the mentor meeting at Camden High School on September 25th. If you weren’t able to attend we will have additional meetings to share/exchange information as we go through this school year.

  4. Dr. McClary, thanks for getting this going. I appreciate what the district is doing for new teachers. I truly believe this will help us keep the good ones!

  5. It’s hard to believe this year is passing so quickly, but I’ll bet our new teachers are really starting to feel like it’s crunch time! I’m sure they have learned what I affectionately call “survival skills.” This is generally the time when when they will start relying on those heavily, according to the attitudinal phases we discussed this summer. (For all you music fans, this is when we played “Survivor” by Destin’y Child. :) ) By now, they have learned the personalities and needs of their students, so help with lesson plans or classroom management could be needed. Time management is also hard for many teachers now, so maybe you could offer to help in some small way, even if it is only for 30 minutes. Man! What I wouldn’t do for someone to donate 30 minutes, even as a veteran teacher!

Don’t forget the chart we handed out during Mentor Training that listed teacher needs and mentor stategies. We all need a go-to list of possibilities! Remember, this of course applies to our new teachers, but to also everyone else in the building too! Remember to mentor each other and pay it forward. Let’s retain all of those fabulous teachers that Dr. McClary and our principals have worked so hard to snag!

Thank you for all that you do! In Kershaw County, MENTORS MATTER!

    Have a great day!

  6. During the past couple of weeks I have observed several of our begining teachers and they appear to be on their way to successfully completing the district induction program. It quickly became evident to me (really a reminder from our training) that our beginning teachers have different levels of needs that the induction assistance teams need to address. As mentors, let’s make sure that we are using the tools our training provided to help our beginning teachers become competent professional educators!

  7. Since July 1, 2008 1,266 individuals have been certified through CERRA regional and district sponsored training. They join the ranks of over 4,500 certified mentors.

  8. Hello out there!
I can’t wait to see how your first year teachers are doing! Let us know – come blog with us! I’m sure someone has something positive to say about their mentoring experince or has a question to ask. If you need help, I’ll bet the mentors of Kershaw County are reading this and have the perfect solution for you.
Hope to hear form you soon!
    Jodie
